[NTU] 2017 Short-Term Summer Chinese Course

I. FOR STUDENTS THAT ARE:
Foreigners who are at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or a higher education level
II. CAPACITY:
Each class contains 6~12 people. No class would be offered if there are under 6 people who apply for the class.
III. OFFERED COURSES:
There is no level distinction for this course. Thus students in the same class might differ in their Chinese level. Please refer to the Course Introduction and consider if this course fit your needs.
- Listening and Oral Expression and Comprehension
- Aiming at: Students who have never learned Chinese
- Course Content (Please refer to Course Introduction):
Chinese pronunciation, practical daily expressions, and basic sentence structures would be emphasized. Students will be able to introduce themselves, lead a simple conversation with people, and comprehend basic vocabulary words such as personal information, numbers, weather, hobbies, greetings in a clear, slow and repetitive manner.
- Chinese Reading and Writing
- Aiming at: Students who have basic Chinese speaking skills but are not able to read and write.
- Course Content (Please refer to Course Introduction):
Students will get familiar with the cultural meanings of Chinese characters, radicals and writing orders. They will also be able to read common Chinese characters and then gain the ability to write. Reading strategies such as intensive reading, extensive reading and scanning would be used to help students gain ability of reading comprehension. Meanwhile, writing activities and exercises would be offered to help students of their skills to write short compositions, describing personal background, familiar things, and daily routine.
IV. COURSE TIME:
2017/07/03 (Mon.) ~ 2017/07/28 (Fri.); 20 days in total; 3 hours per day; 60 hours in total
- Listening and Oral Expression and Comprehension: 9:10~12:00
- Chinese Reading and Writing: 14:00~16:50
V. ASSIGNED TEXTBOOKS:
- Listening and Oral Expression and Comprehension: Easy Chinese for You (Beginning Chinese) or (Basic Chinese), published by Cheng Chung Publisher
- Chinese Reading and Writing: Practical Chinese Reading and Writing (I) or (II), published by National Taiwan Normal University Press
VI. COST:
- Application Fee: USD 100. Students should pay by US dollar checks and send all application documents along with the check to our division.
- Tuition Fee: USD 800 per course (USD 1,600 for 2 courses). Students should pay by US dollar checks on registration day.
VII. CLASSROOM:

VIII.APPLICATION:
- Application is due 2017/04/20 (Thu.).
- Application Steps:
Send the following documents to our division. All entries must be postmarked by 2017/04/20 (Thu.). Applicants who do not include all documents needed or include wrong documents would not be accepted.- Application form along with a photo attached to the form and with your signature at the end.
- A copy of your passport.
- Application Fee USD100 by US dollar checks. Please make the check payable to “National Taiwan University”.
- 2 photos.
- Personal documents and application fee would not be refunded. Application fee would not be refunded if applicants decide not to take the course.
- The application fee (the check) would all be returned by express delivery if there are not enough applicants to form a class.
IX. ADMISSION NOTICE:
Between 05/01~05/15, whether courses are offered will be informed by email. And the admission notice will be sent to both your email box and your address.

Registration Time for Listening and Oral Expression and Comprehension: 8:30
Registration Time for Chinese Reading and Writing: 13:30 - Documents Needed for Registration:
- US dollar Check to pay tuition fee (800 for 1 course and 1,600 for 2 courses.)

XI. COMPLETION:
Certificate of completion would be given at the end of the semester.
XII. There is no housing offered. Students must take care of accommodation on their own.
XIII.Refund Policy:
If students decide not to take the course after they pay the tuition fee, their refunding would be given according to the refund policy (please refer to Refund Policy on last page). Tuition fee would be refunded in New Taiwan Dollars.
